Every chapter taught me something the next one was built on.
From the outside, my career can look like a collection of businesses. From the inside it has always been one pursuit: understanding what makes people and businesses perform, and building the systems that get them there. Every chapter deepened the same discipline — and everything converged in what I build today.
Six chapters, one throughline
The ballroom floor
Celebrity Ballroom is where my education in performance really began. Dance doesn't let you fake it — you practice, you get coached, you perform, and the floor tells the truth. Running a ballroom business taught me how to coach people past what they thought they could do, and how to run a service business where the product is the experience.
The Training Factor
I took what I knew about coaching performance and brought it into the corporate world. The Training Factor was my training venture — real skills, real practice, real accountability. It's where I learned the lesson that still drives everything I build: a completed course means nothing if the behavior doesn't change.
Real estate & the markets
Investing in real estate and managing stock portfolios taught me the other half of the equation: measurement and discipline. Deals and markets don't care how you feel — they reward people who run the numbers honestly, manage risk deliberately, and review results without flinching. I learned to treat every investment like an operating business, and every decision like a hypothesis to be tested.
Building the learning infrastructure
Somewhere along the way I stopped just delivering training and started building the machinery behind it — learning management systems, course libraries, certification and compliance programs. Building an LMS that trainers genuinely liked using showed me that great L&D isn't a content problem, it's a systems problem.
The AI turning point
When AI made it possible to assess a real conversation — not just a multiple-choice quiz — everything I'd learned across thirty years of coaching, training, and measuring clicked into place. Multiple choice asks whether someone read the material. Roleplay asks whether they get it. That difference became the foundation of my current work.
MaxTrackIt
MaxTrackIt is the synthesis of every chapter before it: a performance suite for multi-location businesses that closes the loop — evaluate, train, re-evaluate — so companies can develop their people, win more business, and prove the results. It's the system I always wished I'd had, built the way only someone who's lived every side of the problem could build it.
The floor tells the truth. So do the numbers. Build for both.— Mechelle Flowers
Why people work with me
I've been the operator
I'm not consulting from a textbook. I've run service businesses, managed investments, hired, trained, coached, and carried the P&L. I know what advice survives a Monday morning.
I've been the builder
I don't just recommend systems — I build them. Software platforms, curricula, evaluation frameworks, operating processes. If it doesn't exist, that's not a blocker.
I've been the coach
From dancers to frontline teams to leaders, I've spent a career developing people. Systems make performance possible; people make it happen. I work on both.
